
Welcome to a small update for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition! Today’s patch addresses various fixes focused on polishing the Alexander the Great campaign, including tooltips and UI improvements, lobby and matchmaking fixes for Chronicles civilizations, plus audio and narration, and more. Be sure to dig down into the post below to get all of the smaller details before hopping in-game and checking them out firsthand.

Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Microsoft Store:
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Click the [∙ ∙ ∙ ] symbol next to your profile picture.
- Select Downloads and updates.
- Press the Get updates button to automatically detect, download, and install the latest changes to your game!
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 160062.
If you are unable to launch the game after downloading the update, make sure you add (or re-add) the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition client or folder as an exception to your firewall and antivirus program.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in Steam:
- Open Steam.
- Click on Library to see your games list.
- Click Downloads at the bottom of the Library window.
- [If the new build does not download automatically,] click the Download Now button to manually download the new update.
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 160062.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Xbox App for Windows.
- Open the Xbox app.
- Games that are installed show up on the left side of the app.
- Hover over the game or click it, and then select Update.
- [If the new build does not download automatically,] hover over the game, select More Options (…), choose Manage. Under the Files tab, choose the option to Check for Updates.
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 160062.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
- dayUnder the games tab from the PlayStation Home Screen Locate the game and hover over it. Make sure not to select it!
- While hovering over the game press the Pause button (☰) on your controller.
- In the new pop up menu select the Check for Update option.
- If there is a new update available, this will automatically start the download. If your game is on the most recent version, selecting this option will confirm that information for you.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Please note that custom mods may not be compatible with the latest game update. If you are experiencing issues launching or playing the game after downloading the new build, try disabling your installed mods before trying again.

Stability & Performance
- Fixed a crash that could occur when opening older save files due to the radial menu initializing.
- Fixed a crash when launching Chronicles: Alexander the Great campaign on the Microsoft Store platform.
- Fixed a crash when starting Prithviraj 3, ‘Hand of a Princess,’ on Hard difficulty that occurred immediately after loading into gameplay.
UI
- Fixed an issue where civilization details would not appear when hovering over civs in the Skirmish Civilization Selection screen.
- Fixed an issue where civilization icons could persist for removed AI players in Skirmish after changing the civilization set.
- Fixed an issue where the player icon progress could reset after restarting the game, causing unlocked 10-win icons to be lost.
- With Extended Stats setting on, fixed an issue where the Build Queue would overlap with the Nearby Enhancement Count icon on the Achaemenid Town Center and Georgian Fortified Church.
- Fixed an issue where using the arrow keys in certain text boxes could cause the UI to become unresponsive.
Xbox
- Fixed an issue where menu narration on consoles failed to announce required button prompts across multiple menus, impacting accessibility.
- Fixed a hotkey / input related crash affecting Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X players.
PlayStation
- Fixed an issue where menu narration on consoles failed to announce required button prompts across multiple menus, impacting accessibility.
- Fixed a memory related crash affecting PS5 users.
Gameplay

General
- Fixed an issue where groups of Monks lost their charged conversion when switching targets, preventing conversions from completing.
- Fixed an issue where Monks stopped pursuing targets they were converting despite having line of sight, instead of continuing to follow until the conversion completed.
- Fixed an issue on ‘Aquarena’ map where invalid or missing sea gates, walls, or towers, could generate especially with odd player counts, leading to blocked or unbalanced spawns.
- Fixed an issue where Gurjara Camel Scouts lacked standard scout behavior.
Chronicles

Achievements
- ‘Indica’ achievement now unlocks after both collecting all 10 treasures and encountering all events.
Audio
- Fixed scenario music for Chronicles: Battle for Greece 21: ‘The Fall of Athens’, and Chronicles: Alexander the Great 18: ‘Wrath’ where the scenario music would play over the final cutscene audio.
UI
- Fixed an issue where the Chronicles: Battle for Greece Grand Campaign difficulty selection was not narrated, failing to announce the current setting or changes, when menu narration was enabled.
- Users who do not have either Chronicles DLC installed, when clicking on the Chronicles tab on the main menu, will now be prompted ‘You have no Chronicles DLC installed.’
- In English, fixed an issue where the Thracian civilization tech tree preview was truncated, preventing all of the bonuses from being displayed.
Tooltips
- Fixed tooltips for Chronicles Civilization Merchant Ships and Transport ships incorrectly mentioning ‘Mouse and Keyboard’ input on console.
- On console, fixed the tooltips for Kopis and Kotthybos upgrades at the Macedonian Command Post not appearing on the gamepad radial menu.
Localization
- The Puru civilization name now appears as ‘Orang Puru’ in the Malay language, in parity with other civilization names.
- Chronicles: Alexander the Great 17: ‘A Voyage of Discovery’: Fixed incorrect Spanish Latin American translation for Empty Supply Cart (now reading ‘Carreta de suministros vacía’) and removed an extra exclamation mark for Nearchos’ dialogue.
- Fixed an issue where Japanese subtitles were cut off for Chronicles: Alexander the Great cutscenes.
Campaigns
- Chronicles: Battle for Greece 5: ‘Chasing Smoke’: Fixed an issue where the final arrow volley from Ambush Site 5 could get stuck mid-air instead of completing its shot.
- Chronicles: Alexander the Great 4: ‘The Right to Rule’: Fixed an issue where an extra post-victory dialogue played after defeating 3 of 4 tribes, incorrectly referencing the fourth tribe.
- Chronicles: Alexander the Great 12: ‘The City At The End of The World’: The tooltip title for the Town Center’s top icon now reads ‘Constructing Districts’ on console gamepad radial menu.
- Chronicles: Alexander the Great 6, 7, 12, and 14: Fixed an issue for PS5 users where visual text indicators for objectives were not appearing.
Lobbies and Matchmaking
- Fixed an issue where creating a Chronicles custom lobby on first launch could wrongly block match start with a “You do not own the Chronicles DLC” message despite owning the DLC for Console and Microsoft Store players.
Lobbies and Matchmaking

General
- Fixed an issue where players without DLC ownership could load into matches as DLC civilizations in Co-op (Same Color) by readying up and swapping civs in the lobby.
- Fixed an issue with matchmaking for Quick Play, and Ranked Lobbies where an error would appear when queuing for a match.
AI

General
- Fixed Return of Rome AI players not allocating Villagers to resources and sometimes remaining idle.
Modding

General
- Fixed an issue in the folder path logic for Return of Rome mods, causing certain mods in this game mode to not work correctly.

Investigation
As always, we are continuing to track issues reported by the community for future updates. Here is a brief update from our Production team regarding some of what is still in the works:
- Known Issue: The description text on the in-game HUD preview of Thracians civilization is truncated/cut off in all non-English localizations, except Turkish, Hindi, and Korean.
